Ellis Phillips

A young woman is seated at a table, writing or drawing on a blank page with a pencil. She has long, wavy hair and is wearing a black leather jacket. Various art supplies and bowls are scattered on the table.

Ellis Phillips is a mixed media artist from the local Caerphilly Borough. Ellis studied for her BA (Hons) in Fine Art: Studio Site and Context at University of Wales Trinity Saint David. She specialised in painting and mixed media, allowing her to bring a unique style through using various techniques.

Ellis aspires her work to create a feeling of inner peace, this is her goal. To feel as though you can step into the painting and just feel completely calm. A place to escape from the chaos of the world and have time to yourself, reflect on your surroundings and to be mindful of your space. To lose yourself in the painting the way she does when applying paint to canvas.

Ellis’ subject matter generally includes architecture or interior design. She creates work from photographs and her own memories associated with places she has been before. From there Ellis then focuses on the challenge to simplify the photograph, representing the subjects in its most basic shape. She tends to use paint in most of her work with the aim to paint as flat on the surface as she can achieve. Her aim is to try to keep things as simple as she can, to reflect on the importance of a clear mind.
